AJWA Port Services Operate Yanbu Commercial Port
In March 1999 AJWA Port Services was awarded the contract of
operating and managing the Yanbu Commercial Port, this contract was
renewed for another 10 years commencing November 2008.
Although this port has played a key role in the development of
the nearby industrial estate but since the mid 80's it was used
mainly for the import of bulk grain and an insignificant volume of
general cargo.
Purchasing New Equipment Increases Efficiency
In an effort to increase the efficiency in handling, AJWA upon
taking over the port has immediately set out to upgrade the old
equipment and purchase new gear which includes a multipurpose 280E
Gottwald harbour crane with 100 tons capacity.
Another 2 similar cranes will be purchased during 2009 which
will bring the total of 5 harbour cranes, thereby significantly
raising the capacity of this port to minimum of 5 million tons per
year.
Total cargo handled by AJWA Port Services, Yanbu up to February
2009 is 14 million tons.
An additional berth will also be built to bring total available
berths in this port to 10. Draft will also be improved to 14
meters by dredging thereby allowing Panamax type vessels to call
this port fully laden.
